“Violence against women is an open

violation of human rights,

unfortunately widespread without geographical, generational or social distinctions.

In recent decades, significant efforts have been made to recognize, eliminate and prevent it in all its forms”, said the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, on the occasion of the

International Day against male violence against women.

"However - continues the Head of State - for too many women the right to a life free from violence is not yet a reality. The daily news bear sad witness to this and remind us that there are countries where even those who report are subject to serious and extensive forms of repression".

The chronicles relating to violence against women - she explains - give account of "very painful narratives, up to the aberrations in those territories that experience situations of war where women become even more vulnerable and are threatened by violence that can lead to trafficking in human beings or in other serious forms of exploitation".

"

Gender-based violence,

in its infinite forms, from physical, psychological, economic violence, to today's digital violence, undermines - underlines Mattarella - the dignity, mental and physical integrity and, too often, the life of an invaluable number of women, many of whom often, do not resolve to file a complaint".

For Mattarella "Reporting violence is an act that requires courage. We have a duty to support women who have the strength to do so, ensuring the necessary responses in terms of safety, protection and recovery".
